The Construction Legislative Council (CLC) is a multi-discipline coalition of construction industry employers. CAWP is a founding member of the CLC, which was established in 1972 to serve the legislative concerns of Construction Contractors, Architects, Engineers and Material Suppliers from Western Pennsylvania who are engaged in commercial, industrial, institutional, heavy/highway and utility construction. The CLC’s purpose is to present a unified voice in government regarding legislative matters of concern to the entire construction industry.
Meetings are scheduled for the third Friday of each month, and include thorough discussions on federal, state and local legislation affecting the construction industry. The meetings conclude with a speaker who is an elected official from western Pennsylvania. This provides a forum to not only hear an elected official’s position on the industry’s key issues, but also provides the opportunity to educate him or her on the issues that are important to the CLC membership.
The CLC usually holds its meetings at the offices of the Master Builders Association (MBA) of Western Pennsylvania. However, while the MBA searches for a new location for its offices, CAWP has been pleased to host these meetings in interim.
The CLC also hosts an annual dinner, which is usually scheduled for early May at the LeMont Restaurant. This event provides elected officials from western Pennsylvania the opportunity to meet practitioners from all facets of the construction industry. This year’s dinner will be held on May 3, 2007.
