Employer Alert—Social Security No-Match Rules Could be Issued as Early as the Week of July 9, 2007

With the derailment of the comprehensive immigration legislation in the Senate, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is expected to issue a final rule on what employers are to do upon receipt of a Social Security No-Match letter. This letter informs employers that a social security number does not match an employee name.
