APPRENTICESHIP & TRAINING

The mission of the Apprenticeship and Training Committee includes: providing the best trained workforce to CAWP members; enhancing the image that union contractors are better because the unions provide contractors with a skilled workforce; improving recruitment and selection procedures; increasing minority and female representation; assisting in the development of training programs; promoting the continuing training and education for all journeymen; and enlisting additional assistance from CAWP members to meet the Committee’s goals.

EDUCATION

(Professional and Workforce Development)

The Education Committee aims to provide guidance and support to CAWP to ensure effective continuing education is available for CAWP contractor member supervisory and management personnel (project managers, project engineers, etc.) The committee establishes partnerships with local colleges and universities with construction and engineering programs in order to promote job placement with CAWP contractor members. Lastly, the Education Committee strives to promote careers for supervisory and management personnel through the creation of workforce development initiatives.

The Labor Committee aims to negotiate competitive labor agreement for all CAWP Contractor members; and review critical issues affecting heavy and highway union contractors such as apprenticeship and training programs and multi-employer pension funds.

LEGISLATIVE

The mission of the Legislative Committee includes: reviewing the legislative efforts of the Association and, where appropriate, recommending policy on legislative proposals; identifying critical legislative priorities important to the union heavy and highway construction industry; assisting in the development of legislative strategies to promote the union heavy and highway construction industry; attending and promoting others to attend CAWP legislative receptions; providing industry testimony at public hearings; and urging members to become involved in legislative matters and to know their legislators, both state and federal.

CONSTRUCTORS LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

The Constructors Leadership Council (CLC) aims to foster the personal and professional growth of its members by sponsoring social gatherings for networking opportunities as well as organizing continuing education. The CLC ensures the continued growth of the Association by providing the perspectives of CLC members on current issues to the Board of Directors. They also work to improve the public perception of the industry by organizing charitable events in the community.
