To get a job in the heavy & highway construction industry, you can apply through an apprenticeship program or practicing journeyman can call the apprenticeship site to see if they meet the special qualifications.

Carpenters - Heavy & Highway Carpenters build and assemble forms for concrete structures such as bridges, retaining walls, tunnels, subways, drainage structures, hydro-electric developments, locks, dams and sewage treatment projects. 

Cement Masons - Cement Masons smooth and finish exposed concrete surfaces on projects such as sidewalks, driveways and roads. 

Laborers - Laborers are involved with most phases of the construction industry. They work with scaffolding, soil compaction, transit and level, trenching and shoring, traffic control, air tool operation and many other assigned tasks. 

Operating Engineers - Operating Engineers operate, maintain and repair heavy construction equipment, such as cranes, backhoes, loaders, scrapers and bulldozers, for use in the construction of roads, dams and bridges.
