CAWP Participates in Transportation Construction Coalition Fly-In to D.C.
The Constructors Association of Western Pennsylvania, in conjunction with the AGC of America, participated in the Transportation Construction Coalition (TCC) Fly-In on May 19-20th. The TCC is a partnership of 28 national associations and construction unions representing hundreds of thousands of individuals with a direct market interest in federal transportation programs.
The Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), the authorization legislation for the nation’s surface transportation programs, expires on September 30, 2009. The nation’s highways, bridges and transit systems are aging, are being used to the limits of their capacity, and face increasing future demands as population growth, vehicle usage and freight shipments continue to expand. The Highway Trust Fund, supported by highway user fees, is bankrupt without a sufficient balance to fund current authorizations and insufficient revenue to address current and futures indentified needs.
The Association met with members of the western Pennsylvania to request their support for a timely reauthorization of on-going infrastructure programs that will increase investment and provide sound policy changes to meet America’s transportation needs.
