Apprentice Honored with CAWP YCF Scholarship

Shawn M Fay Jr. of Joseph B. Fay Company presented the first Brandon Chaney YCF Scholarship to Marvin Williams on Friday, June 26 at the Laborers Training Center, in the amount of $500.

The Brandon Chaney YCF Scholarship Fund was formed in 2008 by the Steering Committee of the Constructors Association of Western Pennsylvania’s Young Constructors Forum (YCF). This scholarship is given to the highest-ranking first-year apprentice in each of the four heavy and highway union apprenticeship programs in western Pennsylvania. The successful applicant must have completed their first year as an apprentice and be recommended to the YCF by their Apprenticeship Coordinator.

The Scholarship was named after Brandon Chaney. Brandon was aspiring to be a third generation heavy and highway construction worker. On May 20th, 2008, he died in an automobile crash at the age of 16.  Naming the scholarship fund in his honor was done to recognize similar individuals who aspire to work as heavy and highway construction workers.
