CAWP Thanks the Industry for Participating in the 2011 Western PA Construction Career Day

Over 1000 students and 100 teachers from 41 schools showed up to learn all about the heavy/highway construction industry at the 2011 Western PA Construction Career Day. Although the weather did not cooperate, close to 50 bus loads of students from all over western PA poured into the event, some students traveling three hours each way to interact with CAWP members. The event was held at the Forbes Road Career and Technology Center in Monroeville on April 12.

The success of the event was mainly due to the 47 exhibitors who brought in heavy equipment and provided demonstrations and/or career guidance. There was additional support in planning and volunteering for the event provided by CAWP members, Forbes Road CTC staff, and others. The interaction between the students and the industry was a positive sign of students showing an interest in the many career paths available in our industry. This Career Day event is an important part of CAWP’s ongoing efforts in workforce development as it introduces teenagers to the opportunities in the construction industry.
