CAWP member participates in “Careers under Construction” Day at Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center

With a focus on promoting careers in construction to middle school students, CAWP contractor members Carol and Harry Brady of C.H. & D. Enterprises provided the students a hands-on experience into the world of the construction industry. The “Careers Under Construction” event, located at the Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center (CWCTC) campus in New Stanton, was held on May 5th. Under the guidance of Harry Brady, students were given the opportunity to operate a mini-excavator while Carol Brady spoke with them, inspiring their questions about the industry. Additionally, Steve Columbus, Administrative Manager of the Operating Engineers Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program, displayed a crane simulator, which enabled students to get some seat time at the controls of a lattice boom crane.

The career day event was sponsored by the Westmoreland-Fayette Building and Industry Partnership. Members of the Partnership include CAWP, C.H. & D. Enterprises, Inc., and the Operating Engineers Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program. For the past three years, CAWP has teamed up with CWCTC, the Industry Partnership, and its members on various construction-related workforce development activities. These activities are an important part of the Association’s ongoing efforts in workforce development as it introduces teenagers to the many opportunities in the construction industry.
