CAWP and H2AP members gathered and celebrated the heavy/highway construction industry on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Acrisure Stadium. Over 600 attendees enjoyed an extended Monte Carlo reception, food and beverages before honoring several deserving individuals for their contributions to the industry.

Highway Construction Industry 2023 Person of the Year, Cheryl Moon-Sirianni, with CAWP Executive Director Rich Barcaskey

2023 Highway Construction Industry Person of the Year

CAWP Executive Director Rich Barcaskey welcomed the attendees to the event and reviewed the activities of the Association in 2023 before leading the award ceremony to recognize Cheryl Moon-Sirianni, the recipient of the Highway Construction Industry 2023 Person of the Year award. This award is a testament to an individual’s contributions and leadership in the highway construction industry in Pennsylvania. During Cheryl’s 36 year tenure at PennDOT she advocated for highway funding, especially in western PA, supported safety for PennDOT employees AND contractor employees, and took the time to understand the issues facing the industry.

CAWP CLC 14th Annual Brandon Chaney Scholarship Ceremony

The second presentation of the evening was led by CAWP CLC Chairperson Josh Fetcko, Fay S&B USA Construction and CAWP Director of Industry Relations Jason Koss. They came to the stage to present the 2023 Brandon Chaney CLC Scholarship recipients. Developed in 2008 by the CAWP Constructors Leadership Council, this scholarship was named in memory of Brandon Chaney, an aspiring third-generation heavy/highway construction professional who died at the age of 16 in an automobile accident before he could realize this goal.

To honor his memory, this scholarship was created to support others who aspire to work in the heavy/highway industry and is awarded to the top-ranking first-year apprentice in each of the four heavy and highway apprenticeship programs in western Pennsylvania. Year after year, the recipients of this scholarship have set the standard for the future workforce of the heavy and highway construction industry in our region.
